Our 6th Class Debating Team travelled to St. Conleth’s College to take part In the annual Association of Independent Junior Schools Debating Competition. Loreto first  met The Children’s House Montessori School to propose the motion that ‘The Leaving and Junior Certificate Examinations should be abolished. We then met St. Conleth’s to oppose the motion that ‘the voting age should be lowered to fifteen’.

The girls presented animated arguments and   persuaded and cross examined skilfully.

The adjudicators retired for what seemed like an age to decide on the finalists. We had made it through and were to meet Alexandra College in the final. A lively encounter ensued where the merits and pitfalls of social media were discussed.

Once again the adjudicators retired to discuss the verdict. The tension in the room was palpable when they returned…we were delighted to hear we retained our title for the third year in a row and were crowned champions. And there was even more good news …our  very own Clodagh Kelly won best speaker 2022. Congratulations to Clodagh, Lily, Ruth, Amy C and Rachel. …. who would have thought your negotiation skills could win you awards!!!!
