Our 6th class football team had a very successful campaign in this year’s Cumann na mBunscol competition this September and October. It is our most successful year to date since the establishment of the team in 2016.
Having won all of their games in the group stages, the girls proceeded to the Cup semi-final and after a comprehensive win, they secured their spot in the final in Croke Park on the 28th October.
The girls faced tough competition when they lined out against St. Columba’s NS. After a stellar performance from our Loreto ladies, the sides were level at half time. Their commendable work continued in the second half but unfortunately, we narrowly missed out lifting the cup. The final score was 2-6 to 3-7.
Our captain and vice captain, Cate and Moya were inspirational leaders on the day, both contributing scores to our tally. Cate and Clíodhna were outstanding in mid-field and must have covered every blades of grass. Harriet commanded her troops from centre back and Becky’s late goal in the final minutes gave the team and supporters much to celebrate at the end.
Each and every girl stepped up and contributed something to the wonderful performance. Their training, hard work, and dedication over the past few years really came to fruition and Miss. Timmins could not be prouder of her team.
