National Flag Ceremony

On Wednesday, 27th January 2016, the pupils of the Junior School were delighted to welcome Colonel Michael Campion, Lieutenant Niall Harte and Trooper Jessica Slevin to a very special assembly. The members of the Defence Forces, Óglaigh na hÉireann, came to present us with our National Flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation.
The Proclamation was read by Colonel Campion assisted by Cara and Amelia. It was followed by a short talk on the history of the National Flag and its care and custody by Trooper Jessica and Lieutenant Niall. The National Flag was then presented to Ava and the Proclamation to Cate. The entire assembly then stood and we all sang Amhrán na bhFiann.

This was a very special event for our school in a year which marks the centenary of the 1916 Rising. The children had a small treat afterwards to celebrate and were delighted to get a homework pass!
