 Engineers Week 2017
6th Class tour the LE Ciara
Wednesday, March 8, 2017 - 12:03 - 15:04

6th class went to see a navel ship on the 08/03/2017. We walked to the quays and we met Lieutenant Laffan and Second Lieutenant D'arcy. When we got on we split into 3 groups of 10. In my group we went under the boat to the control room first; it was quite small and there was a lot of buttons and emergency buttons. Next we went to the engine room. The boat was run by diesel and the engine was quite hot. There was three generators in case one stopped working. After that we went back up to the deck and we watched the search and rescue men practice to save a person by using a dummy. Next we went to the bridge where they steer the boat, there were lots of radios and they uses codes and the ship name in code is November Charlie Echo. Then we saw all the weapons like a pistol, rifle and the big machine guns. The last things we saw were how the firefighters on board put out a fire. By now RTÉ were here interviewing us. The two last things were how the anchors worked and what the search and seize people wore-they wore all black so they couldn't be identified. We got a group photo and we said goodbye. It was one of the best trips this year.
