3rd Class School Tour
O.W.L.S.
Friday, May 25, 2018 (All day)

3rd class went to O.W.L.S- Outdoor, Wildlife, Learning and Survival Adventure in Fitzsimons Woods for their school tour. When we arrived we met Mouse, our instructor. He brought us up the hill and through a shortcut and told us that this would be our base for the day.
Mouse told us how to stay safe in the woods. Then we played Man Hunt which is hide ‘n’ seek. We had to run away from Mouse and hide. Then he would blow the whistle and try to find us. This game was to help familiarise ourselves with our surroundings.
We learnt all about the trees that were in the forest. Next, we played a base game. There were two teams – red and black. Each team had a base and each time you caught another player your base got bigger. We also played capture the flag and a tracking game. Then we lit a campfire and made smores, roasting the marshmallows over the fire. Some of us even tried cooked beetle larva!
Lastly, we got to use drills and hammers and nails to make our own bird feeders. Mouse gave us a piece of wood each and chicken wire. It was so much fun being outdoors all day and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
