To clean dirty copper coins
Thursday, November 10, 2016 - 11:00 - 12:00

We used acidic liquids to see what was best to clean the coins. Acid is sour or bitter to taste. We used a measuring cup to put 50mls of cola, vinegar, orange juice, lemon juice in different bowls. We mixed a spoon of salt with each liquid. It was really smelly in the classroom! We guessed which liquid would be the best at cleaning. Sweet, sour, fizzy? We put some dirty copper coins in each bowl and counted to 10. We put the coins on paper tissue and we looked to see which coins were the cleanest. Guess which liquid was the best?
Answer: The vinegar and lemon juice were the best. We think it is because they are the most acidic.
